Deep Energy Orchestra will release its third studio album, The Science of Sound<\/em><\/strong>, on October 24, 2025<\/strong>, through 7D Media<\/strong>. Conceived and led by composer, producer, and bassist Jason Everett (aka Mister E)<\/strong>, the album represents a culmination of global collaboration, complex composition, and genre-defying instrumentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the ensemble\u2019s critically acclaimed albums Playing With Fire<\/em><\/strong> (2018) and The Return<\/em><\/strong> (2020), this new release builds on the orchestra\u2019s distinctive fusion of Indian classical rhythms<\/strong>, progressive rock<\/strong>, jazz<\/strong>, funk<\/strong>, and orchestral textures<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Science of Sound<\/em><\/strong> brings together an exceptional roster of internationally recognized artists, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joe Deninzon<\/strong>, electric violinist of the band Kansas<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gary Husband<\/strong>, legendary jazz fusion keyboardist and drummer (John McLaughlin, Allan Holdsworth)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trey Gunn<\/strong>, Warr guitarist and longtime member of King Crimson<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adam Holzman<\/strong>, former keyboardist for Miles Davis<\/strong> and collaborator with Steven Wilson<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

V. Selvaganesh<\/strong>, renowned Indian percussionist (Shakti, Masters of Percussion)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additional contributors include Mark Lettieri<\/strong> (Snarky Puppy), U. Rajesh<\/strong>, Mahesh Vinayakram<\/strong>, Radhika Iyer<\/strong>, John Wubbenhorst<\/strong>, Eric \u201cDoc\u201d Smith<\/strong>, and a full string section featuring violin, viola, and cello.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Cohesive Musical Narrative<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The album features eight compositions, six of which were written by Everett, with additional works contributed by John Wubbenhorst<\/strong> (\u201cThe Dancers\u201d) and U. Rajesh<\/strong> with Ganesh Kumar<\/strong> (\u201cFireflies\u201d). Each piece reflects Everett\u2019s commitment to exploring rhythmically advanced and melodically rich material while remaining grounded in ensemble interplay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tracks like \u201cMorning Over Madrid\u201d and \u201cSolar Playground\u201d balance compositional precision with space for improvisation. \u201cCaptain Quirk\u201d highlights Deninzon and Holzman in tight counterpoint, while \u201cThe Secrets of Subtraction\u201d explores tension and release through intricate call-and-response melody. The closing track, \u201cStargazing,\u201d offers a meditative resolution that underscores the album\u2019s emotional breadth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Production and Vision<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The album was produced and arranged by Jason Everett, with engineering, mixing, and mastering by Don Gunn <\/strong>(Soundgarden, Peter Frampton). The sound is immersive and detailed, capturing the dynamic range and nuance of each performer while presenting a unified, expansive sonic experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is now my fourth time listening to Deep Energy Orchestra\u2019s Playing with Fire. Again, I had absolutely no idea on what I was going to expect by listening to this incredible project. I wouldn\u2019t call them a super group, because it would be too much of a cop-out. They are a family by working together as a team. \u201cPlaying with Fire sort of hovers over and moves between two camps\u2014progressive rock and progressive raga\u2014of progressive jazz. Its gemstone is “Resolve\/Improv\/Caravan,” a twenty-minute journey through outer and inner space that spans an encyclopedia of styles and sounds: Everett’s bass stomps and glides behind the strings’ snakecharming melody, then steps out front to continue oscillating between mellow and raging, and later recites a floating tone poem; Selvaganish at first plays but then breaks into vocalizing his tabla part; Gunn sears your ears with his closing solo; and all this comes together, drifts apart, and comes back.\u201d – Chris M.
