Amici creates a work, with one foot in the golden days of classic rock and the other in alternative and funk rock style. At its basic components, Tragicomic achieves a balance between strength and elegance. Many of the songs have a strong alt-rock vibe to them, with powerful bass lines, fast guitar riffs, and catchy choruses. However, just as the listener begins to get into that groove, Amici pivots around, introducing acoustic guitars, piano, saxophones, and flamenco-inspired moments which give the album its unique sound. These surprising sounds enhance the listening experience, bridging the distinction between indie experimentation and classic rock songwriting. Vocally, Amici performs with an approach that is serious at times and coolly distant when necessary, expressing the album’s various moods, from the optimism of certain tunes to the dark melancholy of others. There’s also a theatrical aesthetic at work, with certain songs suggesting characters and events drawn from personal memory or urban traditions, the type you might hear rehearsed in a darkly lighted pub. While the album constantly references inspirations such as Neil Young, Tom Petty, and 1990s alt-rock basics, it never seems unoriginal. Instead, it strongly embraces its influences while maintaining an individual personality. Tracks featuring funk-inspired guitar work and jazz sounds (including an interesting saxophone performance) reveal Amici’s will to push limits, while the acoustic moments provide a sensitive contrast to the record’s more electric bursts. Tragicomic lives on contrast—acoustic and electric, comical and honest, nostalgic and modern—and it’s this “artistic conflict” that keeps the album interesting from start to conclusion.

Tragicomic by Greg Amici

Photo Credit: Greg Amici photo by Mark Jaworski

https://www.gregamici.com

https://www.facebook.com/GregAmiciMusic

http://gregamici.bandcamp.com/

Greg Amici’s Tragicomic is a sincere, often amusing, nevertheless spiritually realistic trip through decades of…

[14,5
365,4478
post-27672","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-pop-rock-reviews","category-reviews","tag-alternative-rock","tag-greg-amici
["GET
