In 1976 the seminal line-up of Mot\u00f6rhead was solidified a year after the band\u2019s initial inception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Known as the \u2018Three Amigos\u2019 era of Mot\u00f6rhead, Lemmy (bass\/vocals), Fast Eddie Clarke (guitar)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and Phil \u2018Philthy Animal\u2019 Taylor (drums) joined forces and began their extraordinary journey to<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the top of the hard rock elite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In August 1976 the band set up at Emerson, Lake & Palmer\u2019s legendary Manticore Studio in<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fulham to rehearse and showcase the new lineup. While they were there they recorded<\/p>\n\n\n\n

together for the very first time and now, forty nine years later, this long lost tape has surfaced,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

been dusted off and restored in all its raw glory, to celebrate the seminal hard rock bands 50th<\/p>\n\n\n\n

anniversary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s quite surreal, even unbelievable that a whole half century has elapsed since that vital time<\/p>\n\n\n\n

in 1976. Just as remarkable, especially for those who remember Lemmy hammering the fruit<\/p>\n\n\n\n

machines of London\u2019s pubs or as the era\u2019s most extraordinarily approachable rock star, has<\/p>\n\n\n\n

been this always humble man\u2019s ascension to Mount Rushmore-like immortality as rock \u2018n\u2019 roll\u2019s<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ultimate icon, this despite his having sadly passed away nearly ten years ago. Lemmy himself<\/p>\n\n\n\n

certainly would have cackled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dogged struggles Mot\u00f6rhead faced in the first four of their 50 years are well documented<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and the almost accidental manifestation of this album \u2013 and the circumstances under which it<\/p>\n\n\n\n

was recorded \u2013 present a previously barely known new element in the band\u2019s history from that<\/p>\n\n\n\n

time when it\u2019s very future looked bleak had events not taken a different course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Part of that early story involved a little-mentioned man called Frank Kennington, who roadied<\/p>\n\n\n\n

for The Who before moving into management and briefly taking on the struggling Mot\u00f6rhead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of Kennington\u2019s moves was booking the trio into the converted ABC cinema on Fulham<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Palace Road that served as prog supergroup Emerson, Lake and Palmer\u2019s HQ \u2013 which was<\/p>\n\n\n\n

known as Manticore. Named after the mythical beast in Persian folklore that adorned their<\/p>\n\n\n\n

album sleeves, Manticore was one-stop shopping for bands, with the projection room housing<\/p>\n\n\n\n

offices while the seatless main auditorium provided a useful soundstage for bands to rehearse<\/p>\n\n\n\n

in. Mot\u00f6rhead were ensconced at Manticore recording their set on Ronnie Lane\u2019s mobile<\/p>\n\n\n\n

studio, which was operated by Ronnie\u2019s trusted mate Ron Faucus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faucus did a fine job capturing Mot\u00f6rhead\u2019s blossoming raw power and high velocity<\/p>\n\n\n\n

onslaughts on songs that would remain in their live set until 1979. These aging tapes were<\/p>\n\n\n\n

brought to life with restoration duties dutifully handled by longtime Mot\u00f6rhead collaborator<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cameron Webb at Maple Studios in California and mastered by Andrew Alekel at Bolskine<\/p>\n\n\n\n

House in Los Angeles. The result is a truly historical moment in the evolution of hard rock\u2019s<\/p>\n\n\n\n

finest heavy icons, restoring and bringing to the public eye for the first time ever a vital part of<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mot\u00f6rhead\u2019s evolution and history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
