The opening guitar work is characteristic of bands like The Jam and early The Cure, combining pure melodic lines with raw\u00a0drive. The tune has a nostalgic haze to it, nevertheless the production keeps it bright and vibrant. The chorus, which begins at 1:05, moves into a more upbeat punk tempo. It&#8217;s fast, driving, and representing\u00a0the youthful, anti-authoritarian spirit of original punk while providing a more radio-friendly gloss. The refrain is very interesting, aiming to be anthemic\u00a0without being mainstream. The guitar solo at 2:24 is a standout moment. It&#8217;s melodic and expressive, a break from traditional punk minimalism. While punk purists may object to the inclusion, it provides a pleasant dynamic change and shows Shaky&#8217;s determination to go beyond the boundaries of genre. Overall, &#8220;Waitin'&#8221; is a catchy track that avoids getting caught in the past.
