Having issued \u2018Let The Flowers Grow\u2019 (a surprise duet with Boy George) as a standalone single in late 2024, original post-punk icon Peter Murphy <\/strong>followed it in mid-February with \u2018Swoon\u2019, a majestic slice of synth-punk\/funk that also served as a perfect Valentine\u2019s Day gift for his fans.

\u2018The Artroom Wonder\u2019 is available as a brand new single from today (21st March), with Murphy explaining its genesis as \u201can echo from my 4th year at senior school. Daniel Ash<\/em> [former Bauhaus bandmate] and I are listening to the mysterious 6th year cool intelligentsia that have gathered in the artroom. We have dared to enter their conclave, and the music coming from it is intriguing. We discover that the song being played is <\/em>[David Bowie\u2019s] \u2018The Bewlay Brothers\u2019<\/em>, highly intelligent, mystical and sensual, with the singer\u2019s voice as seductive as anyone I\u2019d ever heard.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Justin Chancellor of Tool plays bass guitar on \u2018The Artroom Wonder\u2019, one of several guest musicians on Murphy\u2019s new album \u2018Silver Shade\u2019, which is scheduled for release on 9th May 2025 via Metropolis Records on 2xLP (with colour variants), CD and digitally. Containing both \u2018Swoon\u2019 and \u2018The Artroom Wonder\u2019, the physical and Bandcamp digital formats will also include \u2018Let The Flowers Grow\u2019 as a bonus track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Produced by Youth (Pink Floyd, The Verve, Crowded House, as well as a member of Killing Joke, The Orb, The Firemen) at his studio in Spain, \u2018Silver Shade\u2019 is Murphy\u2019s tenth studio album and a long-awaited follow-up to \u2018Lion\u2019, which the pair worked on together a decade ago. A symbiotic relationship born of artistic collaboration, Murphy states that \u201cthis new album is as powerful as any of my work to date.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peter Murphy\u2019s solo career began in 1986 with the release of \u2018Should The World Fail To Fall Apart\u2019, with this and his eight other studio albums to date spawning fan favourites such as \u2018Cuts You Up\u2019, \u2018A Strange Kind Of Love\u2019, \u2018All Night Long\u2019, \u2018Indigo Eyes\u2019, \u2018The Prince & Old Lady Shade\u2019 and \u2018I\u2019ll Fall With Your Knife\u2019.

Prior to this, Murphy had fronted Bauhaus, who emerged from the fertile UK post-punk scene in 1979 with the release of their debut single, \u2018Bela Lugosi\u2019s Dead\u2019, often considered to be the very first gothic rock record. The band went on to record four seminal albums before initially splitting in 1983, as well as further classic singles such as \u2018Dark Entries\u2019, \u2018The Passion Of Lovers\u2019, \u2018Lagartija Nick\u2019 and \u2018She’s In Parties\u2019. They also had a UK Top 20 hit with a cover version of \u2018Ziggy Stardust\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
