Emerging in the early 1970s, they more or less created \u2018Celtic Rock\u2019, drawing from Irish traditional music and British\/American rock, crafting a sound that was both timeless and radical.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The BBC captured the band in the 1970s and again during their unexpected Indian summer return in the 2010s.&nbsp;<em>At The BBC<\/em>&nbsp;gathers these vital recordings \u2013 spanning nearly 50 years \u2013 into one definitive collection.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/KFTXdM0agBk\">WATCH THE HORSLIPS&nbsp;<em>AT THE BBC&nbsp;<\/em>TRAILER<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Horslips - At The BBC - release trailer\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KFTXdM0agBk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/horslips.lnk.to\/BBC\">PRE-ORDER HORSLIPS &#8211;&nbsp;<em>AT THE BBC<\/em>&nbsp;(30th May 2025)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Disc 1 (1973\u201374) \u2013 Live BBC performances from Radio 1 In Concert, Old Grey Whistle Test, and John Peel Show, capturing Horslips&#8217; early energy and innovation.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Disc 2 (1979\u20132019) \u2013 A 1979 Radio 1 In Concert set, a 2010 unplugged session, and their final 2019 recording, Sideways to the Sun.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Disc 3 (2011) \u2013 The BBC Radio Ulster mix of their orchestral concert with the Ulster Orchestra, featuring The T\u00e1in, The Book of Invasions, and I\u2019ll Be Waiting.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Disc 4 (1979 Bonus Disc) \u2013 Unreleased Short Stories, Tall Tales studio mixes from Windmill Lane.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Disc 5 (DVD) \u2013 Old Grey Whistle Test clips, 1974 documentary footage &amp; 2011 fan-shot concert videos.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Disc 1 begins the journey in 1973\u201374, landmark years in which Horslips took their fusion of mythology and musicianship to the airwaves and concert halls of Britain. Included are performances from Radio 1\u2019s&nbsp;<em>In Concert<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>The Old Grey Whistle Test<\/em>, Radio 1\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Sounds of the 70s<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>2nd House<\/em>&nbsp;(BBC 2) and Radio 1\u2019s&nbsp;<em>John Peel Show<\/em>, showcasing the group in full flight, brimming with invention and zeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By 1979, fresh from the inevitable hard slog of trying to conquer America, Horslips returned to Radio 1\u2019s<em>&nbsp;In Concert<\/em>&nbsp;with a set that captured their ability to fit in with the times and the power of their live performances. Disc 2 continues with an unplugged \u2018comeback\u2019 session from 2010 and a BBC NI performance in 2019 of \u2018Sideways to the Sun\u2019 \u2013 written about magical Irish beings disappearing from mortal sight \u2013 which would, perhaps fittingly, prove to be their last official recording.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Disc 3 presents Horslips\u2019 unique 2011 performance with the&nbsp;<strong>Ulster Orchestra<\/strong>&nbsp;at Belfast\u2019s Waterfront Hall, in its previously unreleased BBC Radio Ulster broadcast mix. Including epic suites from classic albums&nbsp;<em>The T\u00e1in<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>The Book of Invasions<\/em>&nbsp;and fan favourites like the eight-minute \u2018I\u2019ll Be Waiting\u2019, a showcase for late guitarist<strong>&nbsp;Johnny Fean&nbsp;<\/strong>(d. 2023), many \u2013 including band members \u2013 view this concert as Horslips\u2019 finest hour (and a quarter).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Disc 4 is a bonus disc, comprising recently discovered 1979 \u2018working mixes\u2019 of the album&nbsp;<em>Short Stories, Tall Tales<\/em>, recorded at Dublin\u2019s Windmill Lane<em>.<\/em>&nbsp;They offer an intimate glimpse into a band in transition, shifting from the US FM rock that had influenced recent albums towards the spikier, sharper British New Wave sound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>At The BBC<\/em>&nbsp;is completed by a DVD bringing together clips from&nbsp;<em>The Old Grey Whistle Test<\/em>, 1974 documentary material and magical fan footage of two songs from the 2011 Waterfront Hall concert, synced to sparkling BBC audio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Presented in a deluxe hardback book package with rare photographs and extensive liner notes by band biographer&nbsp;<strong>Mark Cunningham<\/strong>, legendary BBC producer&nbsp;<strong>Jeff Griffin<\/strong>&nbsp;and curator&nbsp;<strong>Colin Harper<\/strong>,&nbsp;<em>At The BBC<\/em>&nbsp;is a celebration of a band whose influence still echoes through the decades.
