The Room, known for their history as John Peel favorites with origins in the golden era of northern English post-punk, have created a song that is ancient and myth-inspired. Nemesis is structured like a myth, presenting the story of Rusalka, a changing form spirit demanding vengeance for her lover&#8217;s murder. The atmosphere is nervous, as the song brings up visions of a cursed village haunted by drowning nightmares. The song opens with an odd combination of 1980s post-punk guitar and 1990s minimalist synth colors. The opening musical\u00a0scene is both minimalistic and scary, setting the basis for what feels like a dream turning into a nightmare. The vocals, which have been processed using a vocoder, provide a futuristic, almost apocalyptic touch to the folklore-driven tale, making it sound strangely unusual. At 2:32, the song takes a beautiful turn, getting down into an ethereal, almost folk-like period featuring beautiful folk elements.
