{"id":25265,"date":"2024-09-18T00:07:31","date_gmt":"2024-09-18T00:07:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/skylight.gr\/?p=25265"},"modified":"2024-09-18T00:09:07","modified_gmt":"2024-09-18T00:09:07","slug":"the-chameleons-tomorrow-remember-yesterday-ep-new-recordings-of-early-songs-by-influential-uk-post-punk-act-out-11-10-24-on-metropolis-records","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/skylight.gr\/index.php\/2024\/09\/18\/the-chameleons-tomorrow-remember-yesterday-ep-new-recordings-of-early-songs-by-influential-uk-post-punk-act-out-11-10-24-on-metropolis-records\/","title":{"rendered":"THE CHAMELEONS &#8216;Tomorrow Remember Yesterday&#8217; EP : new recordings of early songs by influential UK post-punk act out 11.10.24 on Metropolis Records"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>THE CHAMELEONS<\/strong><br><em>TOMORROW REMEMBER YESTERDAY &nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">EP<br>out 11.10.24<br>(Metropolis Records)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/dmanalytics2.com\/click?u=https%3A%2F%2Fchameleonsuk.bandcamp.com%2Falbum%2Ftomorrow-remember-yesterday&amp;i=1&amp;d=0hA648BvQmWH8eY6e60yXg&amp;e=byfantis%40yahoo.com&amp;a=_1X0OA2rShW090r8cw_8qQ&amp;s=Hr1Xchzuzvk\">Bandcamp pre-order<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Post-punk icons&nbsp;<strong>The Chameleons<\/strong>&nbsp;spent a significant part of the summer on tour in North America, while any gaps in the schedule saw them in the studio as they continue to record their long-awaited brand new album, \u2018Arctic Moon\u2019, which will be released in 2025.<br><br>Currently on tour in mainland Europe, they return to the US in the autumn before playing and seven UK and Irish shows in December (the remaining European itinerary can be read below).<br><br>The band have today announced that a five song EP entitled \u2018Tomorrow Remember Yesterday\u2019 will be released on 11th October via Metropolis Records (digital) and Aufnahme+Wiedergarbe (vinyl), with a limited number of the latter to be made available from Metropolis on mail order.&nbsp;<em>\u201cThese were among the very earliest songs we got together prior to our first John Peel session in 1981, but were discarded at the time due to them feeling unfinished,\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>states vocalist\/bassist Mark Burgess.<br><br>Posited between the \u2018Where Are You?\u2019 EP (the first new Chameleons in over two decades issued in May 2024) and the upcoming new album &#8211; plus a major career retrospective recently published in Mojo magazine &#8211; this set of refreshed and re-recorded archival tracks creates a nostalgic bridge between the two releases. It was conceived at the band\u2019s annual gathering in Manchester at Xmas 2023, where they performed two shows at The Ritz.<em>&nbsp;\u201cI had the idea of revisiting some of these very early songs but recording them in a way that reflects who the band is now, rather than who we were in 1981,\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;continues Burgess.&nbsp;<em>\u201cWe are so happy with the results.\u201d<br><br><\/em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/ecp.yusercontent.com\/mail?url=https%3A%2F%2Fd19cgyi5s8w5eh.cloudfront.net%2Fusr%2F0a6a899a3086fb4b3850d81715b05964%2Fimg%2F33e6be81d5d71c295fafb27419d4f92cb519c422&amp;t=1726617786&amp;ymreqid=ae27eb65-cffb-e22c-1cce-da00c8010f00&amp;sig=Qy.0rq49Sbauh4pqYZuITw--~D\"><br><strong>THE CHAMELEONS<\/strong>&nbsp;| Mark Burgess 2024 photo by Mick Peek<br><br>The EP opener is \u2018The Fan and the Bellows\u2019, a song that highlights the band\u2019s penchant for creating epic soundscapes with searing guitar textures.&nbsp;<em>\u201cMost of the songs have been released over time in their original form on various retrospectives and suchlike, but were never really intended to be,\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;he explains.&nbsp;<em>\u201c\u2018The Fan and the Bellows\u2019 was the original choice of CBS\/Epic to be our debut single, but we weren\u2019t happy with that and rejected it in favour of \u2018In Shreds\u2019, our newest song at the time.\u201d<br><br><\/em>Another song, \u2018Nostalgia\u2019, the chorus of which provides the origin of the EP title, was also resurrected. They are renowned for their transformative recorded catalogue and intense and emotionally charged live performances, creating a legacy that extends well beyond their four studio albums to date. Their widely acclaimed debut, \u2018Script of the Bridge\u2019 (1983) has been described by many as a masterpiece way ahead of its time, and was followed by \u2018What Does Anything Mean? Basically!\u2019 (1984), \u2018Strange Times\u2019 (1986) and \u2018Why Call It Anything\u2019 (2001).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The band\u2019s unique sound has been captivating listeners for over four decades with a unique mix of melancholic yet energetic and powerful tunes, hypnotic ethereal riffs and a timeless lyrical style.
