{"id":25142,"date":"2024-09-07T10:43:50","date_gmt":"2024-09-07T10:43:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/skylight.gr\/?p=25142"},"modified":"2024-09-07T10:43:53","modified_gmt":"2024-09-07T10:43:53","slug":"bespoke-wheels-winged-heels-a-20-track-anthology-of-steve-kilbey-the-church","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/skylight.gr\/index.php\/2024\/09\/07\/bespoke-wheels-winged-heels-a-20-track-anthology-of-steve-kilbey-the-church\/","title":{"rendered":"Bespoke Wheels &amp; Winged Heels, a 20-track anthology of Steve Kilbey (The Church)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The Church founder Steve Kilbey announces solo anthology\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With Australian rock legends The Church enjoying their highest profile in decades, thanks to the widely acclaimed 2023 album&nbsp;<em>The Hypnogogue<\/em>&nbsp;and this year\u2019s companion piece&nbsp;<em>Eros Zeta And The Perfumed Guitars<\/em>, Easy Action Records celebrates the 70<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;birthday of band founder, bassist, vocalist and principal songwriter Steve Kilbey with a major new anthology \u2013 the first such collection of Kilbey\u2019s solo and collaborative work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Born in Welwyn Garden City, England and moving to Australia with his parents at the age of five, Steve founded The Church in 1980, signing to EMI. The band quickly achieved homeland success with hit singles \u2018The Unguarded Moment\u2019 and \u2018Almost With You\u2019 and a string of Top 20 albums. In 1988 they found international fame with the album&nbsp;<em>Starfish<\/em>&nbsp;and the single \u2018Under The Milky Way\u2019, a #24 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. They\u2019ve since been cited as an influence on numerous bands from The Smiths to The Killers, Tame Impala and King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An extraordinarily prolific songwriter \u2013 by his own reckoning he\u2019s made over a hundred albums \u2013 Steve released his first solo album&nbsp;<em>Unearthed<\/em>&nbsp;in 1986, recorded in his own home studio, followed in \u201987 by&nbsp;<em>Earthed<\/em>, an instrumental \u2018soundtrack\u2019 to his first book of the same name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Bespoke Wheels And Winged Heels<\/em>&nbsp;brings together twenty songs, drawing from those earliest solo releases, right up until the present day, as well as including songs from his many collaborative projects, such as Jack Frost, with the late great Grant McLennan of The Go-Betweens; Kilbey Kennedy with multi-instrumentalist Martin Kennedy and Speed Of The Stars with Frank Kearns of Irish alt-rockers Cactus World News.
