Despite the positive reviews and praise Lawson received for \u0091Boo\u0092, this never transmitted into wide-scale success for a variety of outside factors. However, her dedicated cult following has been sustained throughout her career, which has seen her independently release two subsequent LP\u0092s, \u0091The One That Got Away\u0092 and \u0091Where I\u0092m Coming From\u0092, as well as a \u0091best of\u0092 entitled \u0091Closer\u0092.<\/p>\n<p>Listening to \u0091Songs From The Suitcase&#8230;\u0092 it is apparent that Lawson\u0092s talents are clearer than ever. Wielding the abilities of an experienced and talented songwriter, Lawson moves seamlessly between blues, jazz, folk and soul. Record opener, \u0091The Skin You\u0092re In\u0092, begins with deft blues guitar, cool rhythms and an intelligent use of violin. Lawson\u0092s delicate and calming voice works perfectly in the piece, whilst simultaneously adding subtle piano chords. \u0091Melancholy Blue\u0092 is more of a jazz ballad, utilising soft percussion, piano and melodic clarinet. The musicianship and restraint of Lawson is impeccable. Elsewhere, \u0091Waste of a Woman\u0092 is a wistful, more upbeat piece with a hint of Eastern Europe, whilst \u0091A Woman Passer By On The Street\u0092 is a melodically rich, slow and rather beautiful piece.<\/p>\n<p>Writing some of her strongest material since \u0091Boo\u0092, Juliet Lawson has proved her capacities at writing timeless classics.
