{"id":21718,"date":"2023-10-27T21:29:41","date_gmt":"2023-10-27T21:29:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/skylight.gr\/?p=21718"},"modified":"2023-10-27T21:38:23","modified_gmt":"2023-10-27T21:38:23","slug":"crooked-timbers-an-indie-jazz-rock-band-featuring-a-super-line-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/skylight.gr\/index.php\/2023\/10\/27\/crooked-timbers-an-indie-jazz-rock-band-featuring-a-super-line-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Crooked Timbers, an indie jazz\/rock band featuring a super line-up!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Crooked Timbers is a collective of musicians, writers and artists led by songwriting and production duo Andy Alston (Del Amitri, Independent Group) and James Kirk (Orange Juice, Independent Group).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The eclectic group of singers and collaborators on songs include Justin Currie of Del Amitri, Kevin Godley of 10cc, Ken McCluskey of The Bluebells, Frank Reader of Trash Can Sinatras, Grahame Skinner of Hipsway, international singers such as Marilyn Carino (Mudville, David Byrne) and Marianne Dissard, and Scottish based solo artists such as Monica Queen and Lavinia Blackwell <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The collective\u2019s first release will be a diverse, constantly surprising album release. The album\u2019s 11 songs are lyrical collaborations, some drawn from19th-century (sources such as Scotland\u2019s Broadside Ballads) and lyric poetry, and are infused with experimental jazz, California dream pop, orchestral flourishes, disco and ethnic rhythms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/crookedtimbers.bandcamp.com\/album\/on-this-ocean\">https:\/\/crookedtimbers.bandcamp.com\/album\/on-this-ocean<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This surprising collection delivers a smorgasbord that includes dance-orientated pop to yearning heartfelt ballads to intriguing, arty, mysterious numbers to celebratory \u201cin the \u2018hood- fabulous\u201d bangers, woven together by Alston\u2019s multi-instrumental\/electronic production and Kirk\u2019s endlessly catchy guitar sounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Crooked Timbers is a continually-developing project, conceived with creativity at the centre and will engage with an expanding rotor of vocalists. Each release promises to always be a surprise.
