CIRCUS MIND<\/strong>\u00a0is a New York-based rock outfit and the brainchild of singer\/songwriter and keyboardist\u00a0Mark Rechler<\/strong>. Fresh off the heels of their recently released\u00a0Bioluminate<\/em>\u00a0EP<\/strong>\u00a0and their full-length album\u00a0Joy Machine<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(2021), CIRCUS MIND busts out a hot and funky voting rights anthem with their new single\u00a0\u201cVOTE\u201d<\/em><\/strong>! Set for release October 7, 2022, the track is equal parts Sly Stone, P-Funk, Staple Singers, and Schoolhouse Rock. Featured guests include\u00a0Mat Godfrey<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Matty Fox<\/strong>\u00a0(members of\u00a0The Brandon \u201cTaz\u201d Niederauer Band<\/strong>\u00a0that Rechler played in for three years), along with Nth Power dynamo\u00a0Nikki Cassarino<\/strong>\u00a0and his wife\u00a0Erin Cassarino<\/strong>\u00a0adding to the powerful vocals found on the song.
Rechler will use the track to raise money for the voting rights organization\u00a0HeadCount<\/strong>\u00a0through a fundraiser that will last for ten days upon the\u00a0\u201cVOTE\u201d<\/em>\u00a0single\u2019s October 7 release. His previous fundraiser raised $10K for\u00a0The New Orlean Musicians Clinic<\/strong>\u00a0and he has supported other charities close to his heart.\u00a0
\u201cI had no intention of writing a song about voting,\u201d said Rechler, \u201cbut the muses had different plans. The song literally got written in about two hours, lyrics and music. I stopped a few times to ask myself, \u2018Am I writing a voting song right now?\u2019 but I figured I would just let it come out, since the music was so good, and I could always rewrite the lyrics. But it seemed just the right amount of fun, funky, cool, and relevant, that I knew it was gonna work.\u201d

CIRCUS MIND is a camouflaged cephalopod that can change colors, moods, and styles in an instant, swimming from jazzy groove rock to funky reggae roots with ease. The band is about to celebrate its 20th year and recently unveiled their fourth release\u00a0Bioluminate<\/em>\u00a0on June 17, 2022.\u00a0Bioluminate<\/em>\u00a0continues to capture the CIRCUS MIND spirit as they weave through past, present, and funky future.

The first\u00a0Bioluminate<\/em>\u00a0single\u00a0\u201cBaby Come Back Down\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0(featuring NoLa guitarist\u00a0Marc Paradis<\/strong>\u00a0of Johnny Sketch and The Dirty Notes) has a funky driving Caribbean backbeat mixed with rock and soul vibes and delicious synthesizer work. Opening track and second official single\u00a0\u201cWest End Road\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0feels like you\u2019re in the gospel tent at Jazzfest while mixin\u2019 in some swampy rock reminiscent of Little Feat, Taj Mahal and The Radiators. Special guest\u00a0Nels Cline<\/strong>\u00a0of Wilco shines on the standout track\u00a0\u201cMiss Fortune\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0a slower paced beauty, while special guests Matty Fox and Matt Godfrey from the Brandon \u201cTaz\u201d Niederauer Band bring the album full circle on the final track\u00a0\u201cVampire Blues.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0Longtime bassist\u00a0Chris Crosby<\/strong>, who passed during the recording of the album, appears on four of the tracks.

Their previous release\u00a0Joy Machine<\/em>\u00a0featured\u00a0Big Sam<\/strong>,\u00a0Marc Ribot<\/strong>,\u00a0Ivan Neville<\/strong>,\u00a0Walter Wolfman Washington<\/strong>,\u00a0Scott Metzger<\/strong>, and more. An eclectic collection of \u201970s rock and funk with modern takes on N\u2019awlins swamp rock mixed with Beatles pop, the first\u00a0Joy Machine<\/em>\u00a0single\u00a0\u201cAre You Ready?\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0featured guest guitar phenom\u00a0Brandon \u201cTaz\u201d Niederauer<\/strong>, and its music video was well received by critics and fans alike.

Earlier their release\u00a0\u201cSilver Flower\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0was voted one of the\u00a0Best Indie Albums of 2006 by Newsday<\/strong>\u00a0and put a modern take on influences such as Traffic, Steely Dan, Little Feat, and Mott the Hoople while mixing in NoLa vibe influences like Dr. John, The Meters and The Neville Brothers. The CIRCUS MIND single\u00a0\u201cJazzfest Time\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0was released as an ode to the\u00a0New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival<\/strong>. CIRCUS MIND has opened for national acts (Toots & The Maytals<\/strong>,\u00a0The Neville Brothers<\/strong>,\u00a0The Radiators<\/strong>) and had many notable guests sit in on their recordings and live performances\u00a0(Soulive<\/strong>,\u00a0Rebirth Brass Band<\/strong>,\u00a0Cyril Neville<\/strong>).

CIRCUS MIND\u2019s members are diverse in their influences and playing styles. Lead vocalist, songwriter and keyboardist Mark Rechler performs with multiple projects and has played, toured, and recorded with members of\u00a0The Meters<\/strong>,\u00a0The Neville Brothers<\/strong>,\u00a0The Radiators<\/strong>,\u00a0Soulive<\/strong>,\u00a0The Brandon \u201cTaz\u201d Niederauer Band<\/strong>,\u00a0Rebirth Brass Band<\/strong>,\u00a0Ivan Neville<\/strong>, and more. Spending five years in New Orleans studying music, art, & architecture helped influence his style and direction, and he always keeps his listeners salivating and wanting more.

Guitarist\u00a0Jaime Scott<\/strong>\u00a0has toured the world as a guitarist and engineer, with renowned ensemble John Lurie and the\u00a0Lounge Lizards<\/strong>. In doing so he followed the lineage of the legendary and influential Lounge Lizard\u2019s guitarists who came before him. \u201cBaby Come Back Down\u201d also features late and long-time CIRCUS MIND bassist\u00a0Chris Crosby<\/strong>, who had studied with\u00a0Oteil Burbridge<\/strong>\u00a0of The Allman Brothers Band and Dead & Co.

The band\u2019s rhythm section features drummer\u00a0Dan Roth<\/strong>, a driving force of funky world influences and percussionist\u00a0Steve Finkelstein<\/strong>, who has worked recorded and performed with pop icons from\u00a0Ray Charles<\/strong>\u00a0as well as jam band giants including members of the\u00a0Dead<\/strong>,\u00a0Allman\u2019s<\/strong>, and\u00a0Neville\u2019s<\/strong>, and\u00a0Tower of Power<\/strong>. Steve is also a founding member of the\u00a0Funk Filharmonik<\/strong>.

New Member\u00a0<\/strong>Saxophonist\u00a0Michael Amendola<\/strong>\u00a0holds a BA in Arranging from The Berklee College of Music. Credits include touring, film scores, jingles, and Broadway shows. Michael was a member of The Tony Trischka Band for 7 years, producing 2 recordings on Rounder Records and as a leader, released the jazz recording “Big Sunflower” on CDC Records. Also joining the party is\u00a0Leandro Da Silva<\/strong>, a multi-faceted bassist from S\u00e3o Paulo, Brazil who brings elements of Samba and Funk that can be heard in his diverse playing style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
