Stellan Wahlstr\u00f6m Drift Band<\/strong> is back with their new and fifth album As real as in a dream<\/strong> which will be released September 16th<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is Stellan Wahlstr\u00f6m Drift Band on top of their game, all together in the studio recorded straight on to tape, with the added spice of English horn, Fender Rhodes electric piano and Mellotron.
Ranging from glam rock piano ballads, via psychedelic folk rock, to the guitar overload of the opening track and first single Into the light<\/em>. That one was followed by the pulsating Through the alleys, across the squares<\/em> and now the title track as the third single.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The poetic, cinematic lyrics echo an era when more time was spent staying in and being inspired by mythical cities around the globe. We\u2019re taken to Tangier, Venice<\/strong>, the backstreets of Wahlstr\u00f6m\u2019s hometown Stockholm<\/strong>, as well as a return to New York<\/strong>. These places are still just the setting for the exploration of themes like loss, anticipation and waiting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stellan Wahlstr\u00f6m was formerly in the garage rock band The Wylde Mammoths<\/strong>, releasing records on the legendary US label Crypt Records<\/strong> and touring Europe and the US. His first album Time leaves you behind<\/em> was recorded during his time in New York, and the latest album Hotel Continental<\/em> was followed by gigs there with Billy Ficca (Television)<\/strong> and Jason Victor (Dream Syndicate)<\/strong> joining the band.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As real as in a dream<\/em>\u00a0was recorded by Alexander Pierre (Jenny Wilson, Nicole Saboun\u00e9) at \u00d6rnsbergs Musikstudio in Stockholm, and mixed by Patrick Derivaz (Television, Luna, John Cale) in New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poetic and crammed with narrative intent, clever lyrics evoke a spirit of international travel long gone. \u201cWaxholm Hotel\u201d and \u201cAlready done\u201d are superb examples of this artful storytelling at work. Patrick Derivaz<\/strong>, whose credits include John Cale<\/strong> and Television<\/strong>, renews a longstanding acquaintance with Wahlstr\u00f6m, delivering a sensitive mix that compliments some excellent guitar work from Dream Syndicate\u2019s Jason Victor<\/strong>. Subtle, clever, a little morose; this is a fine album.\u201d<\/em>
