West Australian boogie masters Datura4<\/strong> return with their highly anticipated fifth album, Neanderthal Jam<\/em><\/strong>. Fronted by Dom Mariani <\/strong>of legendary Oz garage rockers The Stems, Neanderthal Jam<\/em> is eleven new tracks of psychedelicised blues and full-tilt heavy rock that were jammed out and recorded at their favourite south-west farmhouse studio during the early months of 2021. Having already released four acclaimed albums on AliveNatural Records Demon Blues<\/em> (2015), Hairy Mountain<\/em> (2016), Blessed is the Boogie<\/em> (2019) and West Coast Highway Cosmic<\/em> (2020), Neanderthal Jam<\/em> sees them building upon and going beyond on another diverse collection of songs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Album opener \u2018Going Back to Hoonsville\u2019 gets things started with a relentless and pounding swing to get your hot wheels on. The jam is well and truly underway, and so the boogie gets heavy pursuing love in an inner sanctum on \u2018Secret Society\u2019 until the joyous organ groove of \u2018Open the Line\u2019 invites us to dance to the music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Bad Times\u2019 digs in on their OZ rock roots with a groove that the \u2018Tatts\u2019 (Rose Tattoo) would be proud of. \u2018Black Speakers\u2019 and title track \u2018Neanderthal Jam\u2019 keep the jams cooking with Bob Patient\u2019<\/strong>s keyboard playing prowess on display proving what a welcome addition he has been to the band. An acoustic prelude that is \u2018Hold My Life\u2019 that leads into a pummelling boogie riff on ‘Worried Man\u2019s Boogie’ sets the scene for personal concerns about a world and the times we find ourselves in. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Full-throttle rocker \u2018Digging My Own Grave\u2019 turns the lights to \u2018black and purple\u2019 and the Witchdoctor takes us for a ride on \u2018Fish Fry\u2019 until we get to the epic sun-kissed west coast highway closer \u2018Dry-By Island.’\u00a0Neanderthal Jam,\u2026\u2026to be continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
