Today marks the release of Before Life Was Death<\/em>, the long anticipated new studio album from Switzerland-based post-punk duo Slade Templeton and Basil Oberli, known collectively as Crying Vessel. Together these two musicians have fused a sound that deftly combines elements of dark wave, goth rock and ambient dance, earning them fans all over the world. In addition to possessing a singular talent for musical composition, the band have shown a remarkable dedication to the visual elements that accompany their music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So today, to commemorate their new album, the band is releasing their most visually arresting, cinematic vision yet, a gorgeously shot, highly compelling and ultimately deeply disturbing music video for \u201cA Helping Hand.\u201d Directed by Oberli with a crew of 20 people, the video tells a story of a mystical, perhaps ancient evil that haunts and intrudes on modern life. The song is likewise about being haunted by a grim reminder of death. As songwriter Templeton explains, \u201cThe song itself pulls from a real-life experience I had of seeing someone drown outside my window (I live near a river). We later found out the person committed suicide by jumping into the water from a bridge. It still haunts me. Basil came over about an hour after it happened to start writing for a new song and the words just fell out. The lyrics talk about what it must feel like to be mid-flight to your death and knowing there is no turning back.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
