Although considered as one of the ultimate \u2019album\u2019 bands, Emerson, Lake &amp; Palmer also crafted some stellar 7\u201d singles across their illustrious career and on August 26th, BMG marks the occasion with the release of the group\u2019s first ever singles box set, a deluxe collection featuring 12 reproduced 2-sided 7\u201d singles pulled from UK &amp; international pressings complete with rare original picture sleeves and label artwork. The box set also contains an extended booklet with detailed notes, a foreword from Carl Palmer, rare band photos plus 12 x 7&quot; companion artcards, inspired from the original single sleeves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Released in celebration of ELP\u2019s 50 th anniversary, this 1971-1992 career spanning collection of 45\u2019s have all been remastered by world-renowned ELP mastering engineer Andy Pearce and include amongst others, the majestic \u2018From the Beginning\u2019 alongside fan favorites \u2018C\u2019est La Vie\u2019, \u2018Lucky Man\u2019, \u2018Jerusalem\u2019, \u2018Stones Of Years\u2019, \u2018Tiger In The Spotlight\u2019, B-side curio \u2019Living Sin\u2019 and the UK Chart Number 2 classic \u2018Fanfare For The Common Man\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Listening back again to the 7\u201d mix of \u2018Fanfare\u2019 re-affirms its position as one of the most memorable instrumentals to grace the history of the UK charts and one that holds it own when placed alongside other non-vocal chart busting masterpieces such as Booker T &amp; The MG\u2019s \u2018Green Onion\u2019s\u2019, Fleetwood Mac\u2019s \u2018Albatross\u2019 or the Average White Band\u2019s \u2018Pick Up The Pieces\u2019. From the minute Keith Emerson\u2019s Yamaha GX1 synth gurgles into life after the<\/p>\n\n\n\n

trumpet intro, the track still rocks like a beast, the 45-edit bringing with it an even punchier dynamic to Greg Lake &amp; Carl Palmer\u2019s immensely powerful rhythm section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each member of Emerson, Lake &amp; Palmer had their own personal history and relationship with the 7\u201d prior to the formation of progressive rock\u2019s first supergroup. With The Nice, Keith Emerson\u2019s fiery Hammond organ was on several singles, most notably their 1968 cover of Leonard Bernstein\u2019s \u2018America\u2019. Greg Lake harboured his own aspirations of stardom<\/p>\n\n\n\n

covering Janis Ian\u2019s \u2018Too Old To Go \u2018Way Little Girl\u2019 with The Shame in 1967 and the\u00a0following year with The Shy Limbs on \u2018Reputation\u2019. Carl Palmer\u2019s first band, Craig, had a\u00a01966 shot at the charts with \u2018I Must Be Mad\u2019, a thunderous rumble of freakbeat pop\u00a0underpinned by the then-15-year-old drummer. Bringing things full circle on the role of the\u00a0humble 7\u201d in ELP\u2019s history, Carl Palmer observes,\u00a0\u201cThis box set of singles is very important\u00a0to the development of ELP. The music that you will hear opened the door to radio around the<\/em> world, and then the musical concept of ELP was born\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
