Schkeuditzer Kreuz\u2019s unique reworking of \u2018State Violence State Control\u2019 appears on the album\u00a0<em>Isolated and Alone<\/em>; self-released in December 2021 under Kieren\u2019s own label imprint Dorfpunk, and distributed by\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=278abb3cff&amp;e=edd47bfdb6\" target=\"_blank\">Bad Habit Records<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=79159636d6&amp;e=edd47bfdb6\" target=\"_blank\">Already Broken Records<\/a>\u00a0in Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>FOR FANS OF:<\/strong>&nbsp;Discharge, Einst\u00fcrzende Neubauten, Laibach, Skeptics, Kollaps, KUBINE, Dark Horse, Death Church, S.M.U.T.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Photography and video by Photoyunist<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The vinyl LP has just been released this month in the UK and Europe by&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=a3a275caf6&amp;e=edd47bfdb6\">Pyrrhic Defeat Records<\/a>, with the new single and video marking what has been an often torturous birthing process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Premiering the new video for \u2018State Violence State Control\u2019 today on&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=4a3c25fc23&amp;e=edd47bfdb6\">Post-punk.com<\/a>, Alice Teeple writes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<em>In 1982, UK punk band Discharge released \u201cState Violence State Control\u201d, a terrifying dystopian rant about police brutality and militarism. Flash forward forty years, and it\u2019s the same old scene. New South Wales-based artist Schkeuditzer Kreuz (alias Kieren Hills) unleashes a ferocious reworking of the track, combining dark, abrasive post-industrial influences with DIY punk<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new video by illustrator, photographer, and filmmaker\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=1b2133f3bd&amp;e=edd47bfdb6\" target=\"_blank\">Photoyunist<\/a>\u00a0brilliantly captures the live energy of Schkeuditzer Kreuz\u2019s \u201cone human and some machines\u201d performances, from a recent show at Melbourne\u2019s Last Chance Rock and Roll Bar, 21 January 2022, while on tour in support of the new album.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As Kieren explained to Post-punk.com:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<em>I was playing for the anniversary of two friends I had met in a night of blood, noise, and terror in Yokohama six years earlier, and at this show the nightmare continued \u2013 fun and pain in equal measures!<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On his love for the original, Kieren also said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<em>I\u2019ve always loved Discharge, but this song more than most from the era has kept my attention: slow, heavy, and very, very aggressive. As a teenager, I wore a patch of the cover of this EP on the back of my jacket, until it fell from my body in shreds. It was my friend and sometime co-conspirator Spider (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=daf4aeb443&amp;e=edd47bfdb6\" target=\"_blank\">Death Church<\/a>) who first said I should play it with Schkeuditzer Kreuz \u2013 it started almost as a joke, and then developed into what it is now: a part of every live show that always gets people going.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A veteran of the Australian and New Zealand punk scene, Kieren began his journey into underground music in New Zealand during the 1980s, before relocating to Australia with riotous Wellington, New Zealand punk rock group&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=7d3ab2fc14&amp;e=edd47bfdb6\">S.M.U.T.<\/a>&nbsp;in 1993. Over the years, he has played in countless underground bands and projects, while based at different times between Australia, New Zealand, and Germany. His other main project for a little over a decade now has been as bassist with Sydney hardcore band&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=8b8ed563ba&amp;e=edd47bfdb6\">Dark Horse<\/a>, and he is also a member of occasional deathrock\/gothic punk outfit&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=2ee8a1caa0&amp;e=edd47bfdb6\">Death Church<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kieren traces his discovery of post-punk, industrial, and experimental noise to his youth in New Zealand, influenced by a previous generation of local punk musicians who had begun to explore different possibilities:&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=0cda28ffaa&amp;e=edd47bfdb6\">Skeptics<\/a>, CeLL,&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=3fd201e44e&amp;e=edd47bfdb6\">Invisible Dead<\/a>, and&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=7e23c9283a&amp;e=edd47bfdb6\">Children\u2019s Television Workshop<\/a>&nbsp;among them, leading Kieren to the music of Laibach and Einst\u00fcrzende Neubauten, or Big Black and Butthole Surfers; and later, current Australian artists such as&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=8b552e4469&amp;e=edd47bfdb6\">Knife<\/a>,&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=9358b00476&amp;e=edd47bfdb6\">Religious Observance<\/a>, and&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=ef827da837&amp;e=edd47bfdb6\">Kollaps<\/a>&nbsp;(now based in Italy); and&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=a587544733&amp;e=edd47bfdb6\">KUBINE<\/a>&nbsp;from Yokohama, Japan. Difficult to pigeonhole musically, Kieren defines the Schkeuditzer Kreuz sound as \u201cD-Beat Raw Synth Punk\u201d \u2013 also the name of an EP from earlier in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now living in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, Australia, Kieren records as Schkeuditzer Kreuz in a cabin that he built in the woods. The new album\u00a0<em>Isolated and Alone<\/em>\u00a0presents an often harrowingly bleak and raw response to the present global climate \u2013 dealing with themes around fear, mistrust, and paranoia; isolation and marginalisation; and (as with the album\u2019s previous video single, \u2018<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=42190d0043&amp;e=edd47bfdb6\" target=\"_blank\">Broken<\/a>\u2019), mental illness and suicide. Originally scheduled for an October 2021 release, the first vinyl pressing of the Isolated and Alone LP at a plant in China was destroyed by local authorities, who deemed it \u201cunfit for export\u201d due to its alleged \u201csubversive content\u201d; forcing the release back to December while the album was re-pressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, physical copies of the LP are now distributed in the UK and Europe by&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=ba99242c4e&amp;e=edd47bfdb6\">Pyrrhic Defeat Records<\/a>, and in Australia by&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=e460eb2b72&amp;e=edd47bfdb6\">Bad Habit Records<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=4ce5754625&amp;e=edd47bfdb6\">Already Broken
