 John Lodge, legendary bass player, songwriter and vocalist of The Moody Blues, and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, is to release a new live album entitled \u2018The Royal Affair and After\u2019.  It features incredible new live recordings of all his Moody Blues hits, plus special tributes to all his bandmates, Graeme Edge, Justin Hayward, Mike Pinder and Ray Thomas.  John is delighted to release this album, an album that encompasses the songs that he describes as being \u2018the soundtrack of his life\u2019, and continues in his deeply-felt quest to \u2018Keep the Moody Blues music Alive\u2019.  The album was recorded live in Las Vegas on \u2018The Royal Affair Tour\u2019, with additional tracks recorded during his subsequent USA dates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the summer of 2019, Lodge was delighted to be part of the \u2018The Royal Affair Tour\u2019, with YES, Carl Palmer, Arthur Brown, and ASIA, and what followed was an epic summer.  For John it was a unique opportunity to bring his electrifying show to both long established fans, and to those new to the Moody Blues.  As one reviewer said, \u2018if you love The Moody Blues, checkout John live. He and the band put on a great show!\u2019 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The album comprises many of the incredible Moodies hits penned by Lodge, classics such as \u201cI\u2019m Just a Singer (in a Rock and Roll Band),\u201d \u201cGemini Dream,\u201d \u201cRide My Seesaw,\u201d \u201cIsn\u2019t Life Strange,\u201d and \u201cSteppin\u2019 in a Slide Zone\u201d, plus the wonderful \u201cSaved by the Music\u201d from the Blue Jays album.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also included is John\u2019s tribute to his friend Ray Thomas, with his version of \u2018Legend of a Mind\u2019.  John and Ray were friends from the age of 14 when they met on a bus and formed their first band \u2018El Riot and the Rebels\u2019.  In 1966 they reunited in \u2018The Moody Blues\u2019, when Ray called to ask John if he\u2019d finished college and wanted to join the band!  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The album also features a special recording of \u2018Late Lament\u2019, by the Moody Blues\u2019 drummer Graeme Edge.  The poem originally appeared on the iconic album \u2018Days of Future Passed\u2019, and was written by Edge, but voiced by Mike Pinder.  John was delighted when Edge agreed to record his poem for him.  John\u2019s tribute to Mike is his rendition of \u2018Sunset\u2019, a new version that captures the mystical tone of Pinder\u2019s work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jon Davison of YES is also featured on the album and joins John and his band to provide lead vocals on \u2018Nights in White Satin\u2019.  During the \u2018Royal Affair\u2019 tour Davison would join John on stage for their \u2018encore\u2019 performance of \u2018Ride My See-Saw\u2019, and this began a friendship that would lead to John to invite Jon to join him on tour.  For 54 years John has played this song at every Moody Blues concert, and loved playing the bass line that he wrote all those years ago, and with the Moody Blues no longer touring, this was a wonderful opportunity to play tribute to Hayward, and continue to perform this iconic song.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John wanted to feature the cello on this album as he felt that it would bring a naturally organic and acoustic symphonic quality to these new versions, and with a purity unmatched by any electronic device, allowing a rediscovery of songs such as \u201cIsn\u2019t Life Strange.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

John is delighted to release this album now.  \u201cWhen we first put together the set list my thoughts were on how I could continue to \u2018Keep the Moody Blues Music Alive\u2019 for the fans, I wanted to bring them the experience that they have loved for so long, and try and give them that full band concert feel with harmonies and orchestration.  But this was before covid, before the challenges we have all faced, and before touring was shut down for 18 months.  Now, when I think about the album, it has an even deeper meaning for me.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I only hope that the fans will enjoy the album, and it will give them a moment to imagine themselves back in an audience at their favourite venue, surrounded by the music that is the soundtrack of my life, and it will help pass the time before we can all be back together on the road.  As I\u2019ve always said, the fans truly are the heart of the Moody Blues.  They have travelled a long time with us, and I hope will continue to do so.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joining John on stage is his \u201810,000 Light Years Band\u2019; long term collaborator Alan Hewitt (Music Director and Keyboards) and Billy Ashbaugh (Drums) both from the Moody Blues touring band, plus Duffy King (Guitars) and Jason Charboneau (Cello), and together they capture the heart of these classic Moody Blues songs.  John truly is the beating heart of the Moody Blues, both with his bass playing and his passion, and this album takes you back to those early days of the core 7 albums, whilst also bringing these songs into the 21st Century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John Lodge is bass guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter for the iconic Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame 2018 inductees, The Moody Blues. Songwriter of such mega Moody Blues hits from \u201cRide My See-Saw,\u201d to \u201cI\u2019m Just A Singer (In A Rock and Roll Band),\u201d \u201cIsn\u2019t Life Strange\u201d and many more.  Lodge has been performing and recording with The Moody Blues for more than five decades, selling in excess of 70 million albums, as well as releasing his three solo albums \u2018Natural Avenue\u2019, \u201910,000 Light Years Ago\u2019 and \u2018B Yond\u2019.  Lodge has been voted one of the \u201c10 most influential bass players on the planet,\u201d and has been the recipient of many awards, including ASCAP (American Society of Composers and Publishers), an Ivor Novello Award, a Lifetime Achievement Award from Prog Magazine, to name just a few.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

John is passionate about \u201cKeeping the Moody Blues Music Alive\u201d, and John and his 10,000 Light Years Band provide a unique opportunity to continue to experience the magic of the Moody Blues.  2021 will see the release of his live album \u2018The Royal Affair and After\u2019 and touring is being planned for 2022.
