Osibisa will release \u201cSunshine Day: The Boyhood Sessions\u201d\u00a050th Anniversary Edition\u00a0on Sept. 30, 2021 on Red Steel Music. Collected together for the first time, all of these carefully curated tracks were originally considered for the soundtrack to the universally acclaimed Oscar-winning Richard Linklater film \u201cBoyhood.\u201d The album will be preceded by the single \u201cSunshine Day.\u201d
It was the relentless search for music that would translate and enhance the movie\u2019s storyline, which led Linklater\u2019s production team to contact the band and their producer. This proved to be an astute decision as known for their criss-cross rhythms that explode with happiness, Osibisa\u2019s oeuvre overflows with the joyful sunshine and innocence of childhood that resonates perfectly with this movie\u2019s bold and engaging narrative.
Famously included in the movie soundtrack, big hitter \u201cSunshine Day\u201d is now joined by rare recordings, remixes and live tracks some of which have never been released before and all drawn from Osibisa\u2019s deep well of Afro-Rock recordings. Their ground-breaking eponymous debut album, produced by Tony Visconti, set the template for not only their remarkable palette of sounds but Afro-Rock as a new and emerging\u00a0musical genre.
