British slide guitarist and singer-songwriter, Troy Redfern<\/strong>, dubbed by the British press as \u201cthe King of slide guitar,” will release his new single Waiting For Your Love<\/em><\/strong> on Friday May 21st<\/strong>. The single is taken from his forthcoming album \u2026The Fire Cosmic!<\/em><\/strong> released by RED7 Records<\/strong> on Friday August 6th<\/strong>.  Watch the trailer for the single HERE<\/strong><\/a>.

The new album follows five unprecedented albums that Troy released in 2020. It was recorded at the legendary Rock\ufb01eld Studios<\/strong> in North Wales, the same studio where Queen<\/strong> recorded all their early albums including Sheer Heart Attack<\/em><\/strong> (1974) followed by A Night At The Opera<\/em><\/strong> (1975) \u2013 the latter featuring the legendary single Bohemian Rhapsody<\/em><\/strong>.  

For the recording of the new album, Troy enlisted one of the best rhythm sections in the UK, including the legendary Darby Todd<\/strong> on drums (The Darkness, Robben Ford, Martin Barre, Paul Gilbert), virtuoso bass guitarist Dave Marks<\/strong> (Hans Zimmer), and guitarist Ron \u2018Bumblefoot\u2019 Thal<\/strong> (Guns \u2018N Roses, Asia, Sons of Apollo), in what Troy describes as \u201cthe ultimate dream team\u201d what is arguably the British guitarist\u2019s most distinctive and powerful release to date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Says Troy, \u201cI chose Rock\ufb01eld Studios because so much of the music I grew up listening to was recorded at this legendary studio (Queen, Black Sabbath, Mott The Hoople). The studio is hallowed ground for every musician, and the rooms there are charged with so much magic and history of all the iconic, classic albums that have been produced there.\u201d

\u201cIt was important for me to capture the raw energy of three guys playing live in the same place, at the same time. That\u2019s something that you just can’t get if you\u2019re sending \ufb01les from di\ufb00erent locations, it doesn’t have the same vibe or feel if you do it that way.\u201d

As soon as we arrived at Rock\ufb01eld, everyone, including Darby and Dave who\u2019ve recorded all over the world, were excited to be there,\u201d continues Troy. \u201cIt\u2019s that kind of place. It has that e\ufb00ect on every musician who records there. Even before we started recording, the energy and vibe was there, which de\ufb01nitely set the tone for the entire album.\u201d

Troy cut his teeth and re\ufb01ned his style over the last few years, playing festival main stages and blazing a trail across Europe, Scandinavia, and Russia. He\u2019s also become a well-known draw on the UK Blues Rock festival circuit, playing alongside rock luminaries including Robert Plant<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTroy is a passionate, intense, free-spirited musician whose ferocious slide guitar style twists and turns timeless themes and ideas to his own ends. He\u2019s a musical visionary unafraid to trample on the boundaries of restricting labels,\u201d<\/em> said Blues Matters Magazine<\/strong>.

The forthcoming studio album is a culmination everything Troy has learnt so far on his musical journey, and, more importantly, brings into sharp focus a much tighter song-writing and more visceral, muscular production style.

For production duties, Troy enlisted the Brighton- based producer Paul \u2018Win\u2019 Winstanley<\/strong>, best known for his epic rock production style, and whom Troy met and had worked with previously on the 2019 RHR album, Hotel Toledo<\/em><\/strong>. Troy and Win bonded immediately, and shared the same musical aesthetic, no nonsense work ethic and dry sense of humour.

Rock\ufb01eld\u2019s vintage mics, mixing desk, and analogue outboard gear gave Win options to capture the dynamic performances on the album. \u201cIt was like being a kid in a candy store,\u201d says Win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was important for the album to sound massive,\u201d says Troy. \u201cIt was a much bigger sound than anything that I\u2019ve released before. As soon as we heard the \ufb01rst takes in the control, we were blown away. We knew that we captured something special. It sounded fantastic.\u201d

\u201cFor the session, Darby Todd brought his vintage Ludwig Vistalite<\/strong> acrylic drums of John Bonham<\/strong> fame. The drums are renowned for sounding massive. Hearing them in one of the best drum rooms in the world, they sounded out of this world! Roger Taylor\u2019s<\/strong> drums recorded for Queen\u2019s Sheer Heart Attack<\/em> album at Rock\ufb01eld are some of my favourite drum sounds ever.”

Ron \u2018Bumblefoot\u2019 Thal states, \u201cIt all starts with the drums, if you\u2019ve got a great drummer, great sounding room, great board, it\u2019s going to sound phenomenal, and it does!\u201d

\u201cI met Ron at a festival in Poland that we were both playing at, we immediately hit it o\ufb00,\u201d recalls Troy. \u201cHe let me use his signature double neck guitar to play on Anthony Gomes <\/strong>encore set at the festival, that was an absolute blast. He\u2019s such a cool, generous guy. When I returned to the UK, I emailed him to ask if he\u2019d like to play on my new album. He was totally \ufb01red up to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Troy continues, \u201cThe album really is a step up. It\u2019s the best album I\u2019ve made. Hiring Rock\ufb01eld, getting the best players, the best producer \u2013 it was a risk, but it paid o\ufb00 tenfold. I\u2019ve made an album I really couldn’t be happier with.\u201d

\u201cWith all the hard work that went into getting this album to sound as great as possible, there was only one option when it came to mastering. I decided to hire Frank Arkwright <\/strong>(Bi\ufb00y Clyro, Oasis, Iggy Pop, Paul Weller, System of a Down). Frank is the senior mastering engineer at Abbey Road Studios<\/strong>. The mastering at Abbey Road added that \ufb01nal sheen. Frank did an absolutely amazing job in bringing out every nuance of the recording.\u201d

\u201cWhen it came to the album artwork, I was originally going to get an artist from Brazil to do it for me, however, I started working on some artwork of my own in the silver age Marvel comics style, based on the four guys that were on the album. I posted a few visuals on the socials and was overwhelmed by the response.

It was a huge kick getting responses from Joe Satriani<\/strong>, Richie Kotzen <\/strong>and my slide guitar hero Denny Walley <\/strong>of Frank Zappa<\/strong> fame. As a result, I created my own comic-style illustrations to package the album.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
