Interview With\u00a0 Jean-Herv\u00e9 P\u00e9ron<\/p>\n

1) Did Krautrock really exist or was some kind of marketing term by the labels?
<\/strong>
That is not correct: the term “Krautrock” was created\u00a0 by the media, not\u00a0 by the labels. <\/p>\n

2) What really happened with the birth of this scene back in the early 70s?<\/p>\n

<\/strong>The media\u00a0 have to\u00a0 find slogans and sensational names in order to sell the news.
So this is\u00a0 what they\u00a0 did : I am sure\u00a0\u00a0 that all\u00a0 journalists and critics were\u00a0 slowly getting aware of a powerful\u00a0 artistic movement\u00a0 coming\u00a0 from\u00a0 germany, especially in the music scene\u2026 they called this “Krautrock” to\u00a0 make fun of it at first\u2026later, the term “krautrock”\u00a0 became a very respected description of a vital\u00a0\u00a0 and innovating way of approaching music.<\/p>\n

3) What’s your opinion about Julian Cope’s book KrautrockSampler?
<\/strong>
Mr.Cope\u00a0 was\u00a0 very enthusiatic\u00a0 about\u00a0 the german attitude and the german groups of the\u00a0 late\u00a0 60ies and the 70ies.\u00a0 His\u00a0 influence on the\u00a0 destiny of this new\u00a0 music is obviously essential.Later, many other groups were to be\u00a0 also influenced\u00a0 by “our music” \u2026like\u00a0 we had been influenced by predecessors\u2026like\u00a0 those predecesors were influenced by the ones before them\u2026.the wheel keeps on turning and the beginning becomes the end\u2026.<\/p>\n

4) What was the inspiration for making this unusual and experimental sound of your music ?<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Many of course but mainly two categories: the ones\u00a0 which were unconscious such as\u00a0 the songs we heard in he womb of our mothers, through the radios when\u00a0 we were\u00a0 kids\u2026and the conscious ones: the groups we admired\u00a0 when we were actually\u00a0 making music \u2026I do not want to name names\u00a0 because there are so many\u00a0 and nobody would believe me\u00a0 anyway \u2026
but the most important\u00a0 factor in the making of art is the social\u00a0 and political environment :
remember, we\u00a0 were in the\u00a0 apex of the\u00a0 “68 revolution “, we were just\u00a0 starting to forget a bit about the war that our parents had to suffer about\u2026we were\u00a0 craving for fresh air !<\/p>\n

5) What was the reaction of the fans & media when they found out the band?
<\/strong>
The fans were bewildered but\u00a0 enthus and the media were scared !\u00a0 ththe fans loved us and the media hated us. This situation has not changed very much. Faust is\u00a0 still an “outlaw” , something that must be\u00a0 avoided\u2026.especially in Germany.<\/p>\n

6) What’s the line up of Faust today and how many members from the first days line up still exist in\u00a0 this line up?
<\/strong>
At the very beginning of Faust, we were\u00a0 six musicians plus\u00a0 a producer\u00a0 Mr. Nettelbeck and a sound engeneer Mr. Graupner. So we were\u00a0 eight people !! that was\u00a0 faust.
One has been kicked out of the group, two died , three\u00a0\u00a0 have decided to leave the group forever \u2026so we are two left from the original line up\u00a0 : zappi w. diermaier, from\u00a0 Austria, the drummer. And jean-herv\u00e9 p\u00e9ron, from france , bass, horns and voice.
We have been honored to meet\u00a0 many\u00a0 beautiful musicians who contributed to the faust saga.
In Athens, Mrs Geraldine Swayne, painter and organist\u00a0 will be performing with Mr. Amaury Cambuzat , guitar and keyboard and we shall together\u00a0\u00a0 also invite some local performers to make the evening\u00a0 very\u00a0 special ,\u00a0 a commemorable\u00a0 event.<\/p>\n

7) Are you going to bring all your equipment for the upcoming show in Greece?<\/strong><\/p>\n

We are\u00a0 coming by plane so we have\u00a0 a limited amount of luggage \u2026. BUT the promoters\u00a0 Catch The Soap production\u00a0 are making sure we\u00a0 will be given everything we need\u00a0 to perform in our\u00a0 usual conditions<\/p>\n


8) Is it true that When you first played in Greece, in 2006, the sound engineer forgot to press the “record” button in order to record the concert?<\/strong> <\/p>\n

That is very sadly true\u2026.he was extremly busy with all our bizarre requests and just forgot\u2026everything else was just fine \u2026<\/p>\n

9) What other memories do you have from Greece back in 2006 ?<\/strong><\/p>\n

A\u00a0 walk in a beautiful part of your city ( sorry , I cannot remember the greek name) ,\u00a0 very\u00a0 elegant\u00a0 women, friendly people and a magnifiscent meal\u2026.<\/p>\n


10) Would you Let us know about the album “C’est Compliqu\u00e9” that was released in 2009 ?<\/strong><\/p>\n

In\u00a0 june 2006, Amaury Cambuzat , zappi and me had just finished\u00a0 a tour and were\u00a0 full of positiv energy\u2026.so we decided to do a\u00a0 studio recording session of\u00a0 only improvised music in Hamburg.
We later decided to\u00a0 have the\u00a0 recorded material\u00a0 produced by two different producers ( one was\u00a0 Steve Stapleton and Colin Potter of Nurse With Wound\u2026. the other came later\u2026.
The album was\u00a0 finalized in\u00a0 2008\u00a0 with Tapete Records and Bureau B\u00a0 label.. and is doing\u00a0 well\u00a0 internationally as far as I know<\/p>\n

11) How are you gouing to promote this album ?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Well, you see, faust do not really promote anything in particular\u2026.we are going to play “faust” music\u00a0 \u2026 some of it will be improvised,\u00a0 we\u00a0 will also play some “faust traditionnal” and\u00a0 of course\u00a0\u00a0 pieces of “C est complique”\u00a0 in Athens\u2026.as well as pieces of yet-not-released new material<\/p>\n

12) When should we wait for new material ?<\/strong><\/p>\n

We actually are just\u00a0\u00a0 coming out of a studio session \u2026 and we had a studio session in 2009 too\u2026.. so there is plenty of new material. I cannot tell you when this will be released.<\/p>\n


13) How do you experience the term of experimental today in your life and music?<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Experimental”\u00a0 will remain\u00a0 for me a natural approach of life\u00a0 and\u00a0 art. \u2026but , sincerely, is there any other\u00a0 way of approaching life and art ?<\/p>\n
