LAMB OF GOD<\/strong>\u00a0has revealed a brand new single and video, \u201cCheckmate,\u201d from the band\u2019s first release in five years and the first to feature new drummer Art Cruz.\u00a0The self-titled\u00a0Lamb Of God\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>is\u00a0due out May 8 via Epic Records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018Checkmate\u2019 brings together all the components of the\u00a0<\/em>LAMB OF GOD<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0sound that we\u2019ve been developing over the last two decades, but with the ambition and ferocity that comes with the start of a new chapter for our band,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0says guitarist Mark Morton.\u00a0\u201cRe-energized and reignited, this is\u00a0<\/em>LAMB OF GOD<\/em><\/strong>\u00a02020. We\u2019ve never been more excited.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n


The fact that the band\u2019s eighth studio effort would warrant \u2018self-titled\u2019 status is a testament to the band\u2019s pride and satisfaction with these songs and this period in their creativity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A true collaboration between all members of the band,\u00a0LAMB OF GOD<\/strong>\u2019s eighth studio album is an amalgam of each individual\u2019s\u00a0contributions, blended\u00a0to create a singular style. Guitarists Mark Morton and Willie Adler\u00a0fuel\u00a0the album with a mountain of riffs, taking what Lamb of God are known for, and unbelievably, upping the ante to new levels. The rhythm section of John Campbell, looming large as a rhythmic shadow, and drummer Art Cruz, who makes his studio debut with\u00a0LAMB OF GOD<\/strong>\u00a0here on this record,\u00a0underpin the proceedings with passion, sweat and expansive dynamics. Vocalist D. Randall Blythe is as angry, insightful, and informed as ever. Never one to shrink from facing the darker aspects of our nature head-on, Blythe delivers with no punches pulled, and as only he and Lamb of God can in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


In celebration of the release of \u201cCheckmate\u201d and the announce of the new album,\u00a0LAMB OF GOD<\/strong>\u00a0will appear at a special show at the House of Vans in Chicago on February 14. The event is free and fans can RSVP beginning at 12 noon CST today at\u00a0HouseOfVans.com<\/a>\u00a0The event will include a photography exhibit featuring photos from\u00a0D. Randall Blythe\u00a0that will be included in the new\u00a0LAMB OF GOD<\/strong>\u00a0album artwork.\u00a0Harm’s Way<\/strong>\u00a0will open the show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


In the midst of writing the\u00a0ten\u00a0songs\u00a0that appear on\u00a0Lamb Of God<\/em><\/strong>, the group hit pause on the works-in-progress to man the stage as main support\u00a0Slayer<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cThe Final Campaign.\u201d After months of playing their best-known songs nightly,\u00a0LAMB OF GOD<\/strong>\u00a0returned to the new tracks and began to work with longtime producer Josh Wilbur (Korn, Megadeth, Gojira, Trivium<\/strong>). Special guests Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed<\/strong>) and Chuck Billy (Testament<\/strong>) also make appearances on\u00a0Lamb Of God<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Richmond, Virginia, quintet propelled heavy metal into the new millennium two decades ago with the prophetically titled\u00a0New American Gospel.\u00a0<\/em>They followed with 2003\u2019s\u00a0As the Palaces Burn<\/em>, which made the\u00a0Rolling Stone<\/em>\u00a0list of the Top 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time.\u00a0Ashes of the Wake<\/em>, released in 2004, was the first\u00a0LAMB OF GOLD<\/strong>\u00a0album to be certified gold by the RIAA, as was 2006\u2019s\u00a0Sacrament<\/em>,\u00a0<\/em>which also made a Top 10 Billboard 200 chart debut. In 2009,\u00a0LAMB OF GOD<\/strong>\u00a0released\u00a0Wrath<\/em>, their first with Wilbur at producer, and earned the number one album spot on\u00a0Billboard<\/em>\u2019s Hard Rock, Rock, and Tastemaker charts, with a number two position on the\u00a0Billboard\u00a0<\/em>200.\u00a0
Those number one positions were repeated with 2012\u2019s\u00a0Resolution<\/em>, which swung effortlessly between thrash, traditional metal, sludgy doom, with flashes of crust punk swagger and bravado.\u00a0LAMB OF GOD<\/strong>\u2019s last album,\u00a0VII: Sturm und Drang<\/em>\u00a0(2015) made its debut on the\u00a0Billboard<\/em>\u00a0200 at number three and finished number 2 in the world charts, reaching Top 5 in five countries and six addition Top 15 positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


In 2020,\u00a0LAMB OF GOD<\/strong>\u00a0is re-energized and unrelenting, ready to lay claim to the metal throne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
