A new Paul McCartney album has been announced for release on February 6, 2012.
Currently untitled, the album will feature standards from McCartney\u2019s childhood as well as two more original compositions from the former Beatle who is joined by special guests Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I kind of got into songwriting, I realised how well structured these songs were and I think I took a lot of my lessons from them,\u201d Paul explains. \u201cI always thought artists like Fred Astaire were very cool. Writers like Harold Arlen, Cole Porter, all of those guys – I just thought the songs were magical. And then, as I got to be a songwriter I thought it\u2019s beautiful, the way they made those songs.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the production of the album, McCartney said: \u201cIt was very spontaneous, kind of organic, which then reminded me of the way we\u2019d work with The Beatles.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019d bring a song in, kick it around, when we found a way to do it we\u2019d say \u2018Okay, let’s do a take now\u2019 and by the time everyone kind of had an idea of what they were doing, we\u2019d learnt the song. So that\u2019s what we did, we did the take live in the studio.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was important for me to keep away from the more obvious song choices so, many of the classic standards will be unfamiliar to some people,\u201d he added. \u201cI hope they are in for a pleasant surprise.\u201d<\/p>\n
