Pink Floyd re-signs to EMI PDF Print E-mail

Pink Floyd and its long time record label EMI have signed a new five-year deal and ended their legal dispute, the company said on Tuesday. The development will come as a relief to the label, which has lost high-profile acts including Queen, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and Radiohead since EMI was taken over by private equity firm Terra Firma in 2007.

Appeals Court Kills Universal’s Lawsuit Over Re-Selling Promo CDs PDF Print E-mail

An appeals court confirmed today that consumers have a right to re-sell promotional CDs, which could have implications for other copyrighted goods as well. A panel of judges from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit has now ruled in three landmark cases that relate to whether copyrighted items like software and CDs are sold—and thus, out of the copyright owner’s control—or simply “licensed” to consumers.

As usual, the list of North America's top-grossing music tours of 2010 was heavy on AARP-eligible best-selling rockers: Bon Jovi, Roger Waters of Pink Floyd, the Eagles, and Paul McCartney all figured in the top 10. But tucked among them, taking in $72.9 million, was the Dave Matthews Band, the '90s-era jam-loving college-town rockers known affectionately as DMB (and less affectionately as "the Dave Matthews Bland").

HMV: "We are not pulling out of entertainment retail" PDF Print E-mail

HMV has affirmed its support for the entertainment sector, which it says remains “at the heart of its offer”, just one day after announcing the closure of 60 stores across the group.The closures will take place across HMV and book retailer Waterstone’s, with 40 HMVs out of 300 and 20 Waterstone’s set to close over the next 12 months.
