Cherry Lane Music Publishing (part of BMG), home to writer/artists including will I am, John Legend, Warren Haynes, and the catalogs of Elvis Presley, John Denver and T-Bone-Walker, has signed a multi-year worldwide administration deal with legendary Texas bluesman Johnny Winter. The deal covers songs written or co-written by Winter, including "Dallas," "Guess I'll Go Away," "Hustled Down in Texas," and "Mean Town Blues."

Reader Jay pointed out in the comments an article from The Root that goes through who gets paid what for music sales, and the basic answer is not the musician. That report suggests that for every $1,000 sold, the average musician gets $23.40.
