Ruiz! – The Human Touch (Track Review)

2 min read

Hugh Ruiz Robert, a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer, and singer from Sheffield, goes by the enigmatic stage name Ruiz! Since he began writing and producing his own music, a new ability he learned during Lockdown, The Human Touch is his eighth album. He penned the song while attempting to get over Long Covid earlier in the year while lying in bed. It concerns how, as a race, we appear to have lost the love and respect we once had for one another, the capacity to get along and live in a society where we help one another out rather than excluding one another and creating barriers to avoid harmony. The song is influenced by both electronica and rock music, expressing through Indie Rock feelings of darkness through its psychedelic music textures and a hope for the “next day” due to the uplifting melodic vocal lines. The structure of the song is complex, with different time signatures and rhythms, probably imitating the complex situation that the artist was in. The production and the mix are OK, offering a clear “sound picture” for all the participating musical instruments. Overall, I would recommend this song to radio producers due to its rich content (in terms of associated music genres) and the positive message of the lyrics.
