Former Samson and First Strike vocalist Mick White releases debut solo album

2 min read

Something’s Got To Give is the debut solo album from former Samson and First Strike vocalist Mick White and features the previously released singles Emergency On Planet Earth and Sometime Superman. From opening track Burning In The Night a bombastic rocker that showcases White’s velvety yet raspy voice alongside blistering guitars from Luke Hatton the scene is set for what’s to come.

The title track Something’s Got To Give is up next which alongside Emergency On Planet Earth deals with the growing environmental issues we are facing but not letting up with the big choruses and guitars that are such a feature of the album. Interspersed with the rockers there are some softer moments with the beautiful ballad Ordinary Girl and the reworking of the First Strike track Hold Tight written and originally recorded by White in 1989. The nod to the eighties continues with the sleazy You Poisoned My Love before giving way to the classic rock sound of Don’t Close Your Eyes a song co-written with the late, great Paul Samson in 1988 and featuring the thundering drums of Carsten Enghardt. The album closer is a reworking of Better Be Strong an uplifting and inspirational song written by German songwriter Marty Punch (produced by Tommy Denander & Carsten Enghardt) originally recorded by White as a session in 2019 but now given the full rock treatment without losing the melody and grandeur of the original.

The album is an unashamedly hard rock record very much with its classic rock roots in the early eighties but all wrapped up in a very tight modern production that sits perfectly in the modern rock sound. The majority of the tracks were co-written by Mick White alongside hot shot guitarist Luke Hatton who also handled bass and keyboard duties. The album was written and recorded throughout the past eighteen months with all the vocals, guitars, bass and keyboards recorded in the UK. Drums were then added by Carsten Enghardt at 1st Take Studios in Gachenbach, Bavaria where it was also mixed and mastered by Enghardt and Ulrich Hilbel.

Mick White – Something’s Got To Give is released on 29th April 2022 via Edel Records
